Tokusatsu Classic The Whale God to Screen for First Time in the UK at Forbidden Worlds Film Festival

Toku fans in the UK have the chance to see a classic at Bristol’s Forbidden Worlds Film Festival as Daiei’s 1962 classic The Whale God is set to be screened for the first time within the UK on Sunday the 1st of June. The film will be presented in it’s original Japanese with English subtitles and introduced by Steven Sloss, writer of upcoming BFI Film Classics: Godzilla.

Daiei’s first big Kaiju movie, the film’s practical effects helped pave the way for their more famous kaiju, Gamera, whose first film released just three years after The Whale God. The movie uses full sized practical effects to portray the battle between a village and a North Pacific right whale that killed several of their whalers.

Tickets to the screening can be bought via the Forbidden Worlds Film Festival website and for those located outside of the United Kingdom, a Blu-Ray release is available in the United States from SRS Cinema.
