A Blu-Ray release of Gakuryu Ishii’s 2024 film The Box Man is coming to western markets from Third Window Films in June. Fans of Ishii’s work will be familiar with Third Windows Films as they have been closely tied to western releases of his features like Crazy Thunder Road, Electric Dragon 80.000 V and The Crazy Family.
The film features a man who wanders the streets of Tokyo from inside a box to keep the world at bay as he scribbles down notes. His unique way of engaging reality inspires a photographer to do the same, but the photographer soon struggles to maintain his new identity as people challenge his dream of being a box man.
The Blu-Ray will hit store shelves on the 30th of June and includes a Director Q&A, Cast Interviews and a commentary track from film critic Tom Mes who is well known for his work on Midnight Eye, a website that helped bring Japanese media to the attention of new viewers in western markets.
