UK fans of the Evangelion franchise only have three days to see the
final movie in the series on the big screen.
The fourth and final
movie of the Evangelion Rebuild series, Evangelion 3.0+1.01 Thrice
Upon a Time, will be showing on the big screen from Friday the 6th of
October to Sunday the 8th. The screening of the film comes from
AllTheAnime, who host a number of screenings for anime features new
and old across the UK.
Director Hideaki
Anno is well known to toku fans for the Shin movies based on famous
toku properties. Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman and Shin Kamen Rider
have been well loved among fans of the genre and Anno’s passion for
the genre has spanned decades.
In 1983, Anno made
and released the short film Return of Ultraman starring himself in
the lead role. While at a screening for his film, Anno would befriend
Shinji Higuchi, who would later work alongside him on Shin Godzilla
and direct the Shin Ultraman movie while Anno directed Shin Kamen
Rider.
Evangelion has a
heavy use of imagery inspired by tokusatsu projects, with this latest
film even featuring a sequence that fans of tokusatsu production
stories will enjoy witnessing on the big screen. Evangelion 3.0+1.01
is the fourth in a quadrilogy of movies that benefit heavily from a knowledge of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series and
the End of Evangelion follow up movie.
While this isn’t
the easiest jumping on point for those unaware of the franchise until
now, being able to see this final on the big screen in western
markets is a huge achievement for fans of the franchise that
should not be missed. The plot synopsis reads:
“From legendary director Hideaki Anno, EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE
UPON A TIME is the fourth and final installment of the REBUILD OF
EVANGELION films, bringing an epic conclusion to the story of Shinji
and his fellow Eva pilots, with the stunning visuals and
thought-provoking storytelling that has made EVANGELION a global pop
culture phenomenon.
Misato and her anti-NERV group Wille arrive at Paris, a city now
red from core-ization. Crew from the flagship Wunder land on a
containment tower. They only have 720 seconds to restore the city.
When a horde of NERV Evas appear, Mari's improved Eva Unit 8 must
intercept. Meanwhile, Shinji, Asuka, and Rei (Provisional Name)
wander about Japan.”
