King Ghidora Returns for Battle Alongside Samurai and Zombies

The 2001 King Ghidora design from Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack has made a return to screens in Marubeni’s latest advert.

The advert from Marubeni features King Ghidora arriving as a large threat to a hoard of samurai and zombies before joining forces to stop a meteor from wiping them all out. Beginning with a samurai named Benimaru fighting against a hoard of soldiers, the warring group are surprised by the rising of an undead army. Enemies become friends as the undead army attack and begin to overpower them all before the shadow of King Ghidora flies overhead.

Benimaru is outnumbered by his enemy

The King Ghidora seen in the advert is the one feature in Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, with Marubeni getting approval from Toei to use the asset and even allow them to repair a suit from the original production. The fighters and undead army unite as one to fight against Ghidora, charging into battle towards the beast as he flies towards them with the signature sound effects from the 2001 feature. Lazer blast fly and the earth explodes against the hoard of soldiers until one of Ghidora’s heads turns to witness a meteor approaching them all.

An undead army rises from the dirt

King Ghidora lands as the fighters all come to a stand still. They all look at the meteor fast approaching as Benimaru ffocuses on Ghidora and yells “That wont stop us, right?” Ghidora looks to Benimaru before a final shot shows Ghidora flying alongside the army towards the meteor for a final battle.

This advert maybe isn’t nearly as exciting as I’ve made it sound but the return of the 2001 King Ghidora is fun to see on screen for fans, even if for the sake of an advert. The entire production is built with care for Ghidora and even features the popular Battle at the Big Bridge music from Final Fantasy V to add to the excitement.

King Ghidora's shadow flies over the hoard

Ghidora was last seen battling it out in Godzilla: King of the Monsters from America studio Lionsgate. In Japanese cinema, Ghidora hasn’t been seen since the aforementioned 2001 Monsters All Out Attack movie.

While there’s no confirmation that Ghidora will make an appearance in the upcoming Monarch: Legacy of Monsters show for Apple+, the plot is set to take place following the first Lionsgate Godzilla movie with no other specifics for how far along in the timeline this is. Could this take place in a time where Ghidora is still alive?

This iteration of Ghidora hasn't been seen since 2001

Ghidora is not set to appear in the upcoming Japanese release Godzilla Minus One, with that film appearing to serve more as a remake of the original title under the direction of Takashi Yamazaki.
